Reinventing the Oklahoma State University Insect Zoo

Andrine A. Morrison, andrine@okstate.edu and Phillip G. Mulder, philmul@okstate.edu. Oklahoma State University, Entomology and Plant Pathology, 127 NRC, Stillwater, OK

This presentation will discuss the history of the Oklahoma State University Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology’s outreach program and traveling Insect Zoo. For more than 15 years the program was unstructured until early 2005 when the department received a grant from the Oklahoma Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research to renovate and revitalize the Zoo. The insect rearing rooms were converted into an educational facility and retitled The OSU Youth Science Center. While much progress has been made, there are still many hurdles to securing the Center’s future.

Species 1: Diplopoda Spirostreptidae Archispirostreptus gigas (giant African forest millipede)
