The Red Palm mite, Raoiella indica Hirst, is considered an important pest in India, Philippines, Mauritius and Egypt and has also been collected in Pakistan, Israel, Russia, and Sudan. It has been recently detected in the Caribbean (Martinique, Dominica, Saint Lucia and Trinidad) where it is a serious pest of palms and several other economic plants (Musa, Heliconia and Alpinia). This presentation provides new findings on its life history and systematics.
