Sociogenomics: Social life in molecular terms

Gene Robinson, generobi@life.uiuc.edu, University of Illinois - Urbana/Champaign, G. William Arends Professor of Integrative Biology,Director, Neuroscience Program, Department of Entomology, 320 Morill Hall, 505 South Goodwin Avenue, Urbana, IL

Spectacular progress in molecular biology, genome sequencing projects, and genomics makes this an appropriate time to attempt a comprehensive understanding of the molecular basis of social life. In this talk I will highlight results that use honey bees to identify genes that influence social behavior and genes implicated in social evolution. I will also present results of studies that use the newly available honey bee genome sequence to learn about the cis-regulatory combinatorial code for socially regulated gene expression
