Building bridges to address pest management issues

Susan T. Ratcliffe, sratclif@uiuc.edu, North Central IPM Center, S-316 Turner Hall, 1102 S. Goodwin Avenue, Urbana, IL

As new or emerging pest management issues develop, it is important to collaborate and communicate across disciplines, agencies and regions. The regional IPM Centers assist by coordinating multi-disciplinary, multi-agency and mulri-regional programs. Perhaps the most effective example of this approach is the Legume Pest Information Platform for Education and Extension (PIPE). The Legume PIPE Project involves Land-Grant Universities, the United Soybean Board (USB), USDA Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service (CSREES), Animal and Plant Health Inspection Serivce (APHIS), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Risk Management Agency (RMA), National Plant Diagnostic Network (NPDN) and the regional IPM Centers.
