Graham White, gbwhite@ufl.edu, USDA-ARS, CMAVE, 1600/1700 SW 23rd Drive - P.O. Box 14565, Gainesville, FL

The DWFP program boosts efforts to develop insecticidal products for protection of military personel against blood-sucking pests and disease vectors, especially mosquitoes and phlebotomine sand flies. Now into the third annual cycle of funding $5 million/year, competetive grants have been awarded to over 20 projects with academic scientists, military entomologists, and industry. Most support has been provided for collaboration with the USDA-ARS National Program on Medical, Veterinary and Urban Entomology. Some project highlights will presented, based on an overview of the DWFP program, showing how the incentive to protect deployed military can also provide new products and methods for control of public health pests and vectors.
