What is the PIPE?

The PIPE is the Pest Information Platform for Extension and Education. Developed initially to address issues related to management of soybean rust (SBR), the PIPE uses a map-based display to show the integration of crop reports, pest reports, weather data, and predictive models. Extension specialists have timely access to all reports nationally, and use the platform for delivery of state-based commentary to the public. Risk management issues are addressed by a component that allows growers to document management decisions in relation to current conditions and commentary. The PIPE was developed through a partnership among Land Grant universities, USDA, grower organizations, and industry. We expect soybean rust is only the first of many pest/crop combinations that will be addressed by the PIPE.
