USAMRU-Kenya: 30 years of arthropod-borne disease research in east Africa

The United States Army Medical Research Unit – Kenya (USAMRU-K), Nairobi, Kenya, has been conducting research on infectious diseases of military importance since its establishment in 1974. As a Department of Defense overseas laboratory, research centers on infectious diseases endemic to east Africa that could adversely impact on the health of deployed military forces. This presentation focuses on the Entomology Department of USAMRU-K, briefly describing its history and the important vector research currently being conducted to enhance the health of military forces worldwide.
