Approximately 24 species of Sisyra and three species of Sisyrina occur in Asia and Oceania. The know distributions for most of these species are highly restricted. Several are known only from the type material. Taxonomic and distributional information for the species is summarized. Reasons for the apparent low diversity of spongillaflies in this vast region are discussed, but the primary reason is likely due to the low diversity of freshwater sponge.
