Closer™ (Sulfoxaflor) is a new and unique chemical class (4C sulfoxamines) that lacks of cross resistance to neonicotinoids, provides fast knockdown and extended control of selected sap-feeding insects and effectively suppressing feeding. Closer controls insects by contact and ingestion. Since its registration in 2013 Closer™ has played a significant role for the management of the Asian Citrus Psyllid (ACP). Field and laboratory studies has shown Closer significantly reduces sab feeding insects (ACP numbers and feeding on plants). This is very important for the management of both the vector and disease in citrus groves (ACP and Huanglongbing bacteria. Similar results have been observed in vegetables where this insecticide controls Sweepotato whitefly and it is expected to reduced the risk of transmision and acquisition of the Tomato yellow leaf curl virus. Closer is a novel insecticide that will ensure the sustainable management of selected sap feeding pests and the prevention of insecticide resistance.
