In 1989 the database BRUCOL was created, initially it was used to satisfy a taxonomic revision about Amblyserus and Zabrotes genera, using Paradox program, and fed with information from specimens data that were stored in C. D. Johnson’s collection at Northern Arizona University, plus information of specimens borrowed from other Institutions of these group. By 1998 BRUCOL was updated with the rest of Johnson’s Bruchid collection. At that time Geoff Morse from the Harvard Universidad was building a database of Bruchid literature; we exchanged information, and finally BRUCOL was assembled using both sources, data insects and literature information. The database actually has taxonomic information, field data, host plants, and deposited insect collections worldwide. At this time BRUCOL is for personal use; however eventually it will be available on line. BRUCOL, a single table, is constantly updated with insect information and literature; actually it contains more than 50,000 records, and can be found on it: 63 genera of Bruchidae, 1673 species, 233 countries, 14548 localities, 11392 data collection, about 3783 collectors, 2189 host plants of 48 plant families, 253 collections that house Bruchids, and 852 bibliographic sources.
