0302 Human heterogeneities in dengue virus transmission
Sunday, November 13, 2011: 3:38 PM
Room D2, First Floor (Reno-Sparks Convention Center)
Medical entomologists typically focus on mosquito sources of heterogeneity in the dynamics of vector-borne pathogen transmission. To compliment that perspective we are using results from 12-year long longitudinal studies of dengue epidemiology (which include a prominent entomological component) in Iquitos, Peru to examine relationships among humans, mosquitoes, and variation in virus transmission through time and space. In this presentation we will summarize heterogeneities in virus transmission, with an emphasis on humans, and discuss their implications for improved dengue surveillance and prevention.
