This clade of pronopholines, sometimes referred to as the "Hypocystina," is a monophyletic group of closely related species found across the south-temperate regions of South America. Though there have been some systematic studies of these nineteen genera, no detailed morphological study has been made to resolve this group either at the species-level or in a strictly phylogenetic context. This analysis leads us to a new phylogenetic hypothesis wherein the status of several genera, some of which have based on distinctive apomorphies, is reexamined. Additionally, while a few species may be synonomized, others remain undescribed.
