A taxonomic revision and cladistic analysis were undertaken for the South American velvet ant genus Tallium André (Mutillidae: Sphaeropthalminae). Phylogenetically informative taxonomic characters were identified and compiled. Internal transcribed spacer regions (ITS1 & ITS2) were sequenced; molecular and morphological data were then used to construct a matrix of character states and a phylogeny of the genus was generated for the first time.
