Manufacturers have a unique opportunity and responsibility for developing and stewarding tools that can be used for urban pest management. Development can include focus on products with low mammalian toxicity, minimal environmental impact, specificity to target pests, Reduced Risk designation and definitive or prescriptive use by product handlers. Manufacturer's also have a responsibility to properly steward their products. Stewardship can include training in proper use within an IPM approach. IPM approaches can include mechanical, physical, cultural, biological and chemical control measures.
