Telford (1973) recorded 11 genera and 58 species of syrphid flies known from Puerto Rico at the time of the study. Among these, four species were described as new. Thompson (1981) revised the Syrphidae of the West Indies. After making nomenclatural corrections he reduced the number of species from Puerto Rico to 46, excluding species with doubtful records. This work reviews the current state of the flower flies of Puerto Rico. The current list contains 15 genera and 61 species. The genera Ceriana (Rafinesque 1815) and Orthonevra (Macquart 1829) are reported for first time for the island. The altitudinal range is presented for each species as well as additional distributional data. A map representing the surveyed areas is shown.
