The Nearctic genus Ablautus Loew is comprised of 14 described species. Ecologically, they are important predators of other arthropods in the sandy habitats of the Western US and Mexico. J. Wilcox (1966) published the last taxonomic revision of Ablautus. The higher-level classification of the genus is uncertain and currently resides in the subfamily Willistonininae. This research will re-evaluate the higher-level classification of Ablautus and revise its species through a phylogenetic analysis using adult morphological characters.
