Non-entomologists are often surprised and captivated by the diversity of insects within their immediate vicinity. This interest can be exploited to engage students and the public in entomology and larger issuses within science and society.

We will summarize outreach activities including: 1) how to , in three hours, give students a substantial background in entomology, collect insects, and prepare a small personal collection to take home; 2) how to engage everyone from the general public to entomology graduate students by holding a 24 hour insect diversity competition; 3) how to develop activities that will engage audiences ranging from three-year-olds to prison immates.
