Striking gold yet again in California: the rich and highly endemic Pedilus fauna (Coleoptera: Pyrochroidae: Pedilinae)

California boasts of 21 /Pedilus /species -- 70% of the North American fauna, including representatives of four species groups. Eight species, nearly 27% of the Californian /Pedilus/ fauna, are endemic to the state. These and several other species exhibit fairly restricted geographic distributions. An overview of the fauna is presented with diagnostic features, as well as taxonomic,distributional, and natural history observations.
