The diversity of crane flies is enormous, representing nearly 10% of all Diptera. Neophylidorea, a new genus described from this project, will be used as a case study to investigate the drivers of speciation in crane flies. Here, we provide a solid taxonomic framework of operationally defined species of Neophylidorea using morphological and molecular data. A combined morphological and molecular phylogeny at the generic level is presented as well as a biogeographic history of the group through use of ecological niche modeling.
