A molecular phylogenetic study of forty two species of predaceous diving beetles (Dytiscidae) emphasizing Hygrotus Stephens and Coelambus Thomson was undertaken. Sequences were generated from the following genes: cytochrome c oxidase I (COI), cytochrome c oxidase II (COII), wingless (Wnt), elongation factor 1 alpha (Ef1รก) and histone III (H3). Parsimony and Bayesian analyses were performed. Relationships among species were examined and evolution of habitat preferences were investigated within the context of the resulting phylogeny.
