Evaniid wasps (Hymenoptera: Evaniidae) are commonly referred to as ensign wasps because they have laterally compressed flag-like metasomas which are regularly pumped up and down. Despite many fascinating biological attributes, this group of insects has been overlooked by ecologists and systematists. A major impediment to further research on these wasps is the current state of their chaotic and possibly flawed classification. About 2,000 evaniid specimens were collected from different parts of Madagascar. These specimens are being used to study and revise the genera and species of Evaniidae found in Madagascar. Results will be discussed.
