0610 Surviving field disasters and taking a chance on chance

Outside of a few specific programs, the current funding climate discourages high risk or exploratory projects. Conducting field research in remote areas can be considered high risk because most organisms are poorly known, and unpredictable events can easily upset the most carefully made plans. In this talk, I argue that a flexible approach to research objectives, coupled with a collaborative approach, can turn field disasters into gold.
