This study documented the establishment of Galerucella spp. and subsequent damage to purple loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria L) at five release sites throughout the Utica marsh from 2005 – 2008. Each summer, beetles were present at all release sites. Effects of Galerucella spp herbivory on growth and reproduction varied among sites and years. Several lepidopteran herbivores were also found feeding on L. salicaria including Eudryas unio, Lymantria dispar, Spilosoma virginica and Haploa lecontei.
