Arthropod-borne infectious diseases are a major threat to human and animal life. Lone star ticks transmit a bacterial disease called Human Monocytic Ehrlichiosis (HGE) caused by the rickettsial bacterium Ehrlichia chaffeensis. Lone star ticks were collected in various states in the Southeastern United States and tested for HGE. Prevalence is an important public health tool in the awareness and prevention of disease.
