In Florida, we have two very invasive tramp ant species emerging as a problem, the African big-headed ant, Pheidole megacephala, and the Caribbean crazy ant, Paratrechina pubens. There is very little known about the biology of both of these ant species and how foraging behavior influence their development into super colonies. We hypothesize that food needs, trail pheromone, and biological characteristics vary for multiple queen colonies of the African big-headed ant and Caribbean crazy ant.
