Some recent papers, including those dealing with fossils, have applied ill-defined or inappropriate approaches to the description and classification of new taxa. Appropriate systematic methods are reviewed; revised results based on their application are presented for members of the heteropteran infraorders Cimicomorpha and Pentatomomorpha
