The previously undescribed genus Axea (Hymenoptera: Scelionidae) and its species are revised. Our treatment of Axea species provides a tested for monographic work on the much speciose genus Scelio. Worldwide species of Scelio will be treated by teams of people, each focused on a different geographic region. Descriptions are generated from a Delta-like matrix format managed in the Platygastroid Planetary Biodiversity Inventory's vSysLab ('virtual systematics lab") software. Specimen barcoding allows for the rapid generation of material examined sections and related data, and extended-focus digital photography greatly reduces the time required for illustration. A wiki is used to exchange ideas, test keys, and discuss character concepts.
