A study was conducted to examine the presence and variability of microsatellite loci in Helicoverpa zea (Boddie) and Heliothis virescens (F.) These microsatellites were originally isolated from the closely related species, Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner). Insects used in the study were collected from pheromone traps at four Arkansas locations. The number of detected alleles at each location will be discussed.

Species 1: Lepidoptera Noctuidae Helicoverpa zea (corn earworm, bollworm)
Species 2: Lepidoptera Noctuidae Heliothis virescens (tobacco budworm)
