This study investigated the behavioral avoidance of immediate freezing or falling temperatures in Formosan subterranean termites (FST), Coptotermes formosanus (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae), in comparison with a more cold-tolerant eastern subterranean termite (EST), Reticulitermes flavipes. Our tests indicated cold-avoidance behavior in both termite species, and EST can survive better in cold than FST.

Species 1: Isoptera Rhinotermitidae Coptotermes formosanus (Formosan subterranean termite)
Species 2: Isoptera Rhinotermitidae Reticulitermes flavipes (Eastern subterranean termite)
