We report a previously undescribed symbiotic association involving spruce beetles, Dendroctonus rufipennis Kirby, several species of fungi, and a nematode, Ektaphelenchus obtusus Massey. The nematodes and fungi occur within special pocket-like structures, termed “nematangia”, on the insects’ hindwings.
