Male Mediterranean and Queensland fruit flies both produce wing-buzzing sounds during courtship but the functional role of the sounds is not clear for either species. In further consideration of the roles of these sounds, we report on video and acoustic analyses of behaviors and sounds in courtship bouts of fertile and irradiated (sterile) Queensland fruit fly males, and on acoustic comparisons with male Mediterranean fruit fly buzzing sounds.

Species 1: Diptera Tephritidae Ceratitis capitata (Mediterranean fruit fly)
Species 2: Diptera Tephritidae Bactrocera tryoni (Queensland fruit fly)
