The effect of land use on assemblages of adult carabids (ground beetles) in the spring was evaluated in central Kentucky. Carabid assemblages in forests, recent clear-cut sites, and agricultural fields were sampled using pitfall traps. Over 40 species were collected but no significant differences in species richness or diversity were found among the three land-use treatments. Species composition, however, was distinguishable between treatments using cluster analysis and principal components analysis.
