The Colombian Association of Flower Exporters is celebrating 10 years of Florverde®, its’ social and environmental programme. Working closely with the Colombian Centre for Innovation in Floriculture has led it to innovative strategies for pest management by weaving together social and human indicators with environmental benchmarking, technically supported by research, in order to achieve one of the most comprehensive flower certification programmes worldwide. Strategies include cooperation with the Colombian Agricultural Institute for supervision and implementation of plant health export regulations, research into and adoption of integrated crop management practices which emphasize alternative control methods especially biological and botanical inputs, as well as reduction of quantity and toxicity level of chemical pesticides, among others.
