Coming to a bookstore near you: Evolutionary Biology of Insect-Plant Relationships

Kelley J. Tilmon, kelley.tilmon@sdstate.edu, South Dakota State University, Plant Science Department, NPB 247, Box 2140-C, Brookings, SD

This poster outlines the content of a new entomological book in preparation, Evolutionary Biology of Insect-Plant Relationships [working title]. This book is being written under contract with University of California Press, edited by Kelley J. Tilmon in cooperation with UC Press subject editor Charles Crumly. This is a 27-chapter, multi-contributor edited volume exploring key topics in the study of whole-organism, insect-plant evolution. This approximately 650 page book explores evolutionary change in populations, the evolution of species, coevolution and macroevolution, and applied aspects of evolution. The focus on plant-insect relationships provides a common theme linking ideas from several levels of evolutionary inference. This book will be valuable for both professionals and graduate students who study evolution, evolutionary ecology, systematics, and insect-plant interactions. It was inspired by a recent Entomological Society of America symposium on evolution in insect-plant systems, in memory of the late Thomas K. Wood, a pioneer in the study of insect sympatric speciation.
