Svetlana N. Myartseva, smyartse@uat.edu.mx and Enrique Ruíz-Cancino, eruiz@uat.edu.mx. University of Tamaulipas, UAM Agronomía y Ciencias, Centro Universitario, Cd. Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico

Taxonomy of the genus Metaphycus Mercet always has been studied very intensive in view of the importance of the species for biological control of scale insects from the family Coccidae. This genus contains more than 230 described species in the world fauna. Earlier from Mexico were known 9 identified species of Metaphycus (Trjapitzin & Ruíz-Cancino,1996; González-Hernández, 2000; Noyes, 2002).In 1998-2002 the authors collected and reared in diferentes states of Mexico 13 species of Metaphycus, from them 8 were described as new and two are new for Mexican fauna (Myartseva & Ruíz, 2002, 2003). Currently, 20 species are recorded in Mexico as parasitoids of soft scale insects (Homoptera: Coccidae) and whiteflies (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae). Species of Metaphycus from Mexico were described as new in 2002 and 2003: acapulcus Myartseva et Ruíz, aleyrodis (Myartseva et Ruíz), celticola Myartseva, farfani Myartseva, karwinskiae Myartseva, sergueii Myartseva, superbus Myartseva, and tuxpan Myartseva.
