Milkweed Butterflies was the first comprehensive revision of any large butterfly taxon to include an explicit cladistic analysis based on morphological characters. Ackery and Vane-Wright's classification of Danainae differed in certain respects from prior efforts by Forbes, Corbet and Talbot and Reuter, particularly with respect to the basal position of the genera Lycorea and Anetia. These competing hypotheses of relationships among these genera are here tested with characters from multiple gene regions. The placement of Danainae within Nymphalidae will also be addressed.
