Dow AgroSciences LLC and Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. are co-developing a plant-incorporated-protectant (PIP) that uses a binary Cry34Ab1 and Cry35Ab1 protein and targets corn rootworm. In 2003, corn event DAS-59122-7 was identified among lead events as commercial considering all molecular, agronomic, and efficacy information. The companies desire to extend the durability of this pest management tool by developing a trait durability plan supported by appropriate science. Together, these companies developed a rigorous science plan to address the most critical factors needed to implement the technology and extend its durability. The science plan and examples of progress are presented.
