While other cereal aphids have been well studied, the rice root aphid remains an obscure species in the Great Plains. In this paper we present results of experiments to determine the direct effects of rice root aphid infestation on forage and grain yield of winter wheat. Although the rice root aphid significantly lowered components that contribute to grain yield, overall grain yield was not significantly different from the control. Rice root aphid infestation significantly reduced forage yield of winter wheat.

Species 1: Homoptera Aphididae Rhopalosiphum rufiabdominalis (rice root aphid)
Keywords: population abundance, wheat
