Molecular and Morphological Systematics of the Ornate Ant Killers (Hymenoptera: Eucharitidae)

John M. Heraty and David C. Hawks. University of California, Department of Entomology, Riverside, CA

Eucharitidae are parasitoids of ants. Molecular and Morphological phylogenies are largely congruent with the exception of one genus group (Gollumiella and Anorasema). Molecular data strongly supports this as the sister group of the remaining two subfamilies. A reevaluation of the morphological data supports this hypothesis and leads to a better evaluation of behavioral change in the family.

Species 1: Hymenoptera Eucharitidae (ornate ant killers)
Species 2: Hymenoptera Formicidae (ants)
Keywords: phylogenetics, behavior
