Catch efficacy of commercial light traps for control of the house fly Musca domestica (L.)

Matthew Aubuchon and P. G. Koehler. University of Florida, Department of Entomology and Nematology, Building 970 Natural Area Drive, Gainesville, FL

Catch efficacy of five commercial light traps was compared using an enclosed laboratory assay. One hundred flies were released from a screen cage through a duct tube terminating at an enclosed light trap. Mean numbers of flies caught on trap glue boards were analyzed with Analysis of Variance. Standard SylvaniaŽ 15 watt black-light bulbs were used in traps. Control repetitions were run using the same assay with light traps turned off. Ultra-Violet output from each trap was captured and analyzed using a spectrometer.

Species 1: Diptera Muscidae Musca domestica (house fly)
Keywords: UV trap, control
