IPM for lettuce and other vegetables for the cut/fresh pack market

The focus of this presentation will be on the development and implementation of IPM programs for lettuce and other leafy vegetables grown specifically for the cut/fresh pack market. A brief overview of production, economics and marketing of value added salad mixes will be presented and compared with conventional fresh market production of head and leaf lettuce in both desert and coastal growing locations. Qualitative standards and IPM practices for processed lettuce crops will be compared and contrasted with traditional naked wrapped and boxed lettuce production, and modifications of existing pest management programs for insect pests will be discussed. Finally, new pest management tactics specific for leafy vegetables destined for cut/fresh pack markets will be presented
