A Joint Project of the University of Tennessee and University of Kentucky was developed to study the effects of basic management techniques to prevent insects during storage. Data collected thus far indicates that corn may be stored in on-farm bins using some basic methods of storage such as cleaning the bin and using only a residual and not a grain protectant but wheat should be treated with an approved grain protectant because of the time of year it is stored. Grain stored during summer months is more likely to have insect problems than grain stored in the fall of the year.
