Closer™ (Sulfoxaflor) is a new and unique chemical class (4C sulfoxamineshat exhibits lacking of cross resistance to neonicotinoids, provides fast knockdown and extended residual control of selected sap-feeding insects and that rapidly suppresses feeding. Closer controls insects by contact and ingestion.  In Florida, Closer™ plays an important role for the management of the Asian Citrus Psyllid (ACP). Closer significantly reduces ACP adults and nymphs and feeding on citrus plants. This is very important for the management of both the vector and “greening” disease in citrus in Florida. Similar results have been observed in vegetables where this insecticide controls Sweepotato whitefly and it is expected to reduced the risk of transmision of the Tomato yellow leaf curl virus. Closer has been successful in spray programs for the management of several thrips species including Western Flower Thrips and Melon thrips in fruiting vegetables. Closer is a novel insecticide that will ensure the sustainable management of selected sap feeding pests and the prevention of insecticide resistance.
