Song analysis of South African bladder cicadas (Hemiptera:  Cicadidae)

The calling songs of the South African bladder cicadas Xosopsaltria annulata (Germar, 1830), X. thunbergi Metcalf, 1955, a new species of Xosopsaltria, Bavea concolor (Walker, 1850) and Tettigomyia vespiformis Amyot & Audinet-Serville, 1843 are described.  Song characteristics are discussed with respect to specialized morphological adaptations of the abdomen and species isolating function.
