Organic growers confront the same insect pests as growers using synthetic chemicals however they eschew the use of those chemicals. But organic growers have a number of very effective tools and strategies to reduce damage due to insects. Success of these strategies is enhanced by genetic resistance to insect pests.  The most serious sweet corn pests are those that attack the developing ear and kernels. A number of forms of natural resistance to such pests are known, including mechanical and chemical. While, 100% control due to native genetic resistance is difficult to achieve, a reduction in damage by 50 to 75% coupled with other strategies can help deliver an acceptable product.
