While the stilt-legged fly genus Micropeza Meigen (Diptera: Micropezidae) is found across the Holarctic, the genus has only really diversified in the neotropics, and has yet to be discovered natively in Africa, Southeast Asia or Australia. The systematics and diversity of Micropeza will be presented, including a phylogenetic exploration of the Micropezidae and related families based on DNA, in an attempt to understand the evolutionary history of the genus.
