A report is given about an ongoing revision of the New World genus Bactridium LeConte, the first comprehensive taxonomic treatment of the group since it was described 154 years ago. A key to species, images of diagnostic features, habitus figures, and distribution maps are provided. Natural history data are summarized. Important gaps in the knowledge of this genus are highlighted. A morphology-based cladistic analysis of Bactridium and related genera is presented.
