The tarnished plant bug (Lygus lineolaris) is a serious pest of cotton. The polygalacturonase enzyme occurs in L. lineolaris saliva and is used for breaking down plant tissues for feeding and possibly oviposition site preparation. Research was conducted to determine if the expression of the polygalacturonase gene and the production of the enzyme occur rhythmically.
