This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of transgenic Bt corn to control ear corn pests. Four treatments were tested: (1) Herculex™ (Cry1F PAT; 2B707 Hx); (2) PowerCore™(Cry1A.105 Cry2Ab2 Cry1F PAT EPSPS; 2B707 PW); (3) conventional maize 2B707 (control, without control); (4) 2B707 conventional corn with insecticide application (control 2). The experimental design was randomized blocks design where each treatment was repeated 5 times in plots of 400 m2. In reproductive stage R3, 25 ear corn per plot were harvested and the number of caterpillars and larvae present and the percentage of damaged ear corn were evaluated. The PowerCore™ Bt corn was the only effective control of larvae of Helicoverpa zea and Spodoptera frugiperda in ear corn.
