The systematics of the water beetle family Noteridae (Coleoptera: Adephaga) are investigated. The phylogeny of the family is inferred from molecular sequence data from four gene fragments and three-dozen adult morphological characters. Taxon sampling including representatives of nearly all described genera and numerous adephagan outgroups. Resulting trees based on a variety of analyses provide the first robust phylogenetic estimate for the family. Relationships among the genera and hypotheses of character evolution within the Noteridae are discussed within the context of this new phylogeny.
